As the summer is winding down and coming to a close, August seems like a great time to pause, take a break, and check in before gearing up to finish the year strong. Today we’re bringing you a roundup of some of the most notable event news stories of the past month.

This month has seen a good amount of good news coming from the UK, including the success of The Ticket Factory which just secured eight major exhibition contracts. The company offers a multi-currency, multilingual ticketing solution for events and is quickly growing both nationally and internationally.

Also out of the UK, is the firm Lumi, “a global market leader in real-time audience insight technology, [which just] launched a new respondent engagement tool designed to bring market research in line with current consumer behavior, enhance panelist engagement and ensure fewer dropouts.” The tool is called ‘QuickSay’ and aims to help increase mobile adoption and use at events.

Meanwhile, stateside, the San Francisco-based mobile events and conferences company, DoubleDutch just laid off nearly 25% of its workforce as a part of a company-wide restructuring. The company released a statement saying that this was part of a “decision to break hard for profitability and move up-market as we build out our enterprise platform.”

And finally, MeetingsNet shared the results of a recent online survey which found that things are looking up in terms of tradeshow and exhibition growth. According to the curvey by Exhibit Surveys and Lippman Connects, “68 percent [of exhibit executives] expect to see an uptick in the number of exhibiting companies; and 64 percent say net square feet of exhibit space is on the rise. Sponsorship sales and the number of attendees also are expected to increase, said 62 percent and 58 percent of respondents, respectively.”
